So many people ask me what raw food appliances they should buy. It really depends on the person's budget what raw food appliances I might recommend. I'm a huge advocate of keeping the raw food diet simple without a lot of raw food appliances at first and I started with just a cutting board and a knife and not even a good set! If your budget is tight, of course, I would recommend two of the main products that I sell which are sprout/nut milks bags and the spirooli spiral vegetable slicer. They are inexpensive and can make the raw food diet more interesting and I only sell and recommend products that I love and that I use all the time.
With that being said, when you are ready to make a big purchase, I wholeheartedly recommend buying a good blender and I specifically recommed the Vitamix Blender 5200. A good blender is so important in the raw food diet. You can make soups, salad dressings, sauces, smoothies, juices and nut milks (if you have a sprout/ nut milk bag), spreads/pates, nut cheeses, ice creams, puddings, ground nuts, and seeds like flax. Most people use their blender a few times a year to make cocktails. Most raw foodists use their blenders every single day! Most blenders are not durable enough to withstand a raw foodists demands nor can they achieve the creamy consistency that is so important in raw cuisine.
I consider myself somewhat knowledgeable about raw food appliances only because I have tried a lot of the blenders and juicers on the market. I used to live with the owner of a raw food appliances company and I tested many appliances. A few years ago I moved and was without a good quality blender for a year. I was too cheap to invest in a good blender so I used lesser quality blenders and ended up burning out the carafes of 4 different blenders. Either the bearings burned out or the carafe cracked. The worst was when the blades came out creating a hole in the bottom of my blender and my blueberry smoothie fell through the bottom and spilled everywhere!
That is when I decided to give in and buy a Vitamix Blender 5200. I had used one in the past for 4 years and loved it. It was powerful enough to make creamy raw dressings, puddings, nut cheeses, and nut milks out of nuts such as almonds, pine nuts and macadamia nuts. The motor or the carafe never went out on me, even with heavy use! It is one of the best blenders on the market and one of the best blenders for a raw foodist. Don't do what I did and buy lesser quality blenders, in the end you'll end up having to pay the price! The Vitamix Blender 5200 is the best raw food appliance there is, in my opinion!
