New Raw Food Restaurant
in Santa Rosa, California
On May
2nd a new Raw Food restaurant in Santa Rosa opened and I was
lucky to attend the opening party. We were served miniature
sizes of some of the dishes they serve. On the right is a
miniature Arame Salad over Cucumber. I also sampled spicy carrot
ginger soup, tostada with spicy jalapeno creme, and the
chocolate caramel pudding amongst other tasty bites. I really
enjoyed the food, it was light and not overly nut dependent and
spiced just right. I think the restaurant is 95% raw and 100% vegan and has gotten great reviews so far.

Definitely call for hours because they have unique hours and are
sometimes closed for private parties.
Gabriel Cousens Book
Signing
I was really fortunate to hear Gabriel Cousens talk about his
new book and movie about reversing diabetes on a low glycemic
raw diet. The movie is called
Simply Raw Reversing Diabetes in 30 days and will be showing
at the Newport Film festival June 5th. I have seen the preview a
few times and it looks excellent. I also purchased Gabriel's new
book, There is a Cure for Diabetes
There Is a Cure for Diabetes
I started reading it and I was amazed at how
much information was in the book, I highly recommend it. I
learned some interesting facts at the lecture including how
widespread diabetes is and that meat can raise blood sugar as
quickly as sugar. I actually asked a question to Gabriel Cousens about Agave. He said point blank that Agave nectar
is not raw and that it is not low glycemic. He said that he
tested people's blood sugar after eating it and that it is
definitely not low glycemic no matter how it is advertised. It
would make sense to me that no sweetener would be low glycemic
and I always felt that they should be used
sparingly. He said Stevia was okay though, the powder is not
raw but it has no effect on blood sugar.

Green Soup and E3-live Craze
I have been making a lot of green soups lately
probably because the warmer weather has started and I was
inspired after a talk I made to a Chronic Fatigue support group
about how healing green soups can be. I made a wonderful recipe
for pineapple gazpacho out of the
Raw Food/Real World
book but I didn't use oil and instead substituted avocado. I also
came up with a green soup recipe of
my own, scroll down to see it. I think I have made it about
three times now! It was a good experience to talk at a chronic
fatigue support group because I was able to explain that when
someone is sick they need to focus more on a healing raw foods
diet and simple foods such as green soups and juices. I had such
good feedback from the group that I realized I need to reach out
to more people with chronic fatigue and that I have a unique
perspective and healing story that can help people.
Speaking of green things I've been drinking a
lot of E3-live lately. At Cafe Gratitude they serve it in
cucumber juice and it really cuts the sweetness of the E3-live
and you can barely taste it, I've been trying it at home as
well. I also put it in my smoothies with black raspberries and
bananas but my favorite is young
coconut water, celery, bananas, and E3-live. For those of
you that don't know what E3-live is, it is a fresh live
bluegreen algae with reported health benefits. If you want to
learn more about E3-live you can read
this article.
Soap Nuts and Other Favorite Cleaning
Products
Last year I discovered soap nuts at a local
natural foods store and I finally tried them! They are
wonderful, they really work by cleaning my clothes and leaving
them fresh without using any chemicals or fragrance.
Soap Nuts are the dried fruit of the Chinese Soapberry tree.
They contain saponin, a natural cleaner used for thousands of
years to clean clothes, You just put
a few in the cotton bag they give you and put it in your wash.

Another one of my favorite cleaning products is
called Bon Ami. Bon Ami Polishing Cleanser is made from calcite
& feldspar mineral abrasives, and biodegradable detergent. It
does not contain chlorine, perfume, or dye. It works just like
Comet but a non toxic version. Here is the website for more
info:

I use it for cleaning my sinks and bathtub.
Another product I like is from Mrs. Meyers they
are called
non toxic surface wipes and they are awesome when you need a
quick clean-up and they come in yummy fragrances like basil and
lemon verbena. They are good for quick counter top and sink
clean-ups.
For the toilet I like to use
oxygen beach by Bio-Kleen. It prevents the toilet from
getting dingy looking and is another non toxic product. You can
also use it as a carpet stain remover and in your laundry to
keep whites brighter.
Raw Family in Need
I found out that there is a raw family in need
who needs our support. They are temporarily homeless and could
use any donation you feel you can give. The mother has actually
compiled some raw recipes her toddler likes and is selling them
as e-books. Buying the e-books would be a great way to support
the family. Here is the the address to her blog:

Finally Exercising
I know in the past I've made resolutions to start exercising
and I'm proud to say for the past 2 months I've kept to my word
and have been walking running on the treadmill, swimming,
lifting weights, and my boyfriend and I have taken up tennis and
have been playing every weekend. It feels wonderful, so far I
haven't lost any weight but I feel like I have more energy and
strength.
So long for now, hope to see some of you at my
potluck it should be a big one! Much
Love-C
